When walking through a rough patch in life, I kept being met with what I imagine were well-intended positive phrases: “this will pass, just you wait, stay strong,” and everyone’s favorite “time heals all wounds”. Some things don’t pass. Slapping time as a bandaid over the wound of a broken heart is a good way to ensure the pieces are held together
When walking through a rough patch in life, I kept being met with what I imagine were well-intended positive phrases: “this will pass, just you wait, stay strong,” and everyone’s favorite “time heals all wounds”. Some things don’t pass. Slapping time as a bandaid over the wound of a broken heart is a good way to ensure the pieces are held together so shoddily that they’ll surely fall apart again. Grief is a valuable process that shouldn’t be rushed. The most helpful thing in those moments wasn’t a perfect phrase that took away the pain, it was the willingness to sit in the discomfort with me. I hope in writing this song, someone else who feels broken knows that they are acknowledged and seen where they’re at.
